Ingredients

Scale

For the Cake Layers:

  • Your favorite chocolate cake recipe or store-bought chocolate cake layers

For the Chocolate Cheesecake Layer:

  • 24 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup Baileys Irish Cream

For the Chocolate Ganache:

  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream

For the Whipped Cream Layer:

  • 1 pint heavy whipping cream
  • 1 tablespoon powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  • Prepare the Cake Layers:
    • Bake and cool two layers of your favorite chocolate cake according to your recipe instructions. If using store-bought, ensure they are cooled.
  • Make the Chocolate Cheesecake Layer:
    • In a large bowl, beat the softened cream cheese and granulated sugar until smooth and creamy.
    • Mix in the all-purpose flour, sour cream, eggs, vanilla extract, and Baileys Irish Cream until well combined and smooth.
  • Assemble the Trifle:
    • Place one layer of chocolate cake in a trifle bowl or a large glass dish.
    • Spread half of the chocolate cheesecake mixture over the cake layer.
    • Add the second layer of chocolate cake and spread the remaining chocolate cheesecake mixture on top.
  • Freeze:
    • Cover the trifle with plastic wrap and freeze for at least 4 hours, or overnight, to set.
  • Make the Chocolate Ganache:
    • In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the chocolate chips and heavy cream. Melt together in 30-second intervals, stirring in between until smooth and fully combined.
  • Drizzle the Ganache:
    • Remove the trifle from the freezer. Drizzle the warm chocolate ganache over the top of the cheesecake layer.
  • Top with Whipped Cream:
    • In a mixing bowl, beat the heavy whipping cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until stiff peaks form. Spread or pipe the whipped cream over the chocolate ganache.
  • Enjoy:
    • Serve immediately or refrigerate until ready to serve. Savor this decadent, indulgent dessert!

Notes

  • Cake Options: You can use any chocolate cake recipe you love, whether it’s homemade or store-bought. For a denser trifle, consider using a brownie layer instead.
  • Baileys Substitute: If you prefer not to use alcohol, you can substitute Baileys with additional milk or a chocolate syrup for flavor.
