Description

Enjoy the warm, comforting flavors of fall with these delicious baked apple fritters. Light, fluffy, and filled with tender apple pieces, they’re perfect for breakfast or a sweet treat any time of day.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large apples, peeled, cored, and diced
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2/3 cup milk
  • 2 eggs, lightly beaten
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)

Instructions

  • Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a baking sheet.
  • Prepare the Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, mix together the flour, granulated sugar, brown sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt until well combined.
  • Prepare the Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, eggs, melted butter, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  • Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients: Gradually fold the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, stirring just until combined. Gently stir in the diced apples.
  • Shape the Fritters: Drop the batter onto the prepared baking sheet in 1/4 cup portions, spacing them out to allow for spreading. You should have about 6 fritters.
  • Bake: Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown and set. A toothpick inserted into the center should come out clean.
  • Cool and Serve: Allow the fritters to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack. Dust with powdered sugar before serving, if desired.

Notes

  • Apple Variety: Use your favorite type of apple for personal preference.
  • Add-ins: Consider adding chopped nuts for crunch or using almond/oat milk for a dairy-free version.
  • Spices: Enhance flavor with a pinch of nutmeg or allspice.
  • Freezing: These fritters can be frozen for up to 3 months. Reheat in the oven or microwave.
  • Glaze Option: For a special touch, glaze with a mixture of powdered sugar and milk.
