Description

This hearty and comforting baked ziti features perfectly cooked pasta smothered in a rich tomato sauce with savory ground sausage, all topped with melted mozzarella and Parmesan cheese. It’s the perfect family dinner or crowd-pleasing dish for any occasion.


Ingredients

  • 1 lb ziti pasta
  • 1 lb ground sausage
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 (28 oz) can crushed tomatoes
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Cook ziti pasta according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
  • In a large skillet, cook the ground sausage over medium heat until browned. Add the chopped onion and garlic, and cook until softened.
  • Stir in the crushed tomatoes, oregano, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 10 minutes.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked pasta and tomato sauce. Mix well.
  • Pour half of the pasta mixture into a baking dish. Sprinkle with half of the mozzarella and Parmesan cheese. Repeat with the remaining pasta and cheese.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until cheese is melted and bubbly.
  • Serve hot and enjoy!

Notes

  • Add fresh basil or a sprinkle of red pepper flakes for an extra burst of flavor.
  • For a lighter version, you can substitute ground turkey or chicken sausage.
