- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 large onion, chopped
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 8 slices rye bread, cubed
- 2 cups shredded Swiss cheese
- 2 cups beef broth
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large skillet, cook ground beef and onion over medium heat until beef is no longer pink; drain excess fat.
- Stir in Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
- In a greased 9×13-inch baking dish, layer half of the bread cubes, beef mixture, and cheese. Repeat the layers.
- Pour beef broth over the top of the casserole.
- Cover and bake for 30 minutes. Uncover and bake for an additional 10 minutes or until cheese is bubbly and golden.
Notes
- For extra flavor, add a sprinkle of parsley or chives on top before baking.
- You can substitute the rye bread with another type of bread, such as sourdough, if preferred.
- Make it ahead by assembling the casserole and refrigerating it for up to 24 hours before baking.
