Description

This Caramelized Onion Baked Brie Bread Bowl is a savory, indulgent appetizer that’s perfect for sharing. With creamy brie cheese, sweet caramelized onions, and soft bread for dipping, it’s a crowd-pleasing treat for any occasion. The perfect combination of rich, melted cheese and savory-sweet onions in a warm, edible bowl.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 large round loaf of bread
  • 1 wheel of brie cheese
  • 2 onions, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Prepare the bread bowl: Cut the top off the loaf of bread and hollow out the center, leaving about a 1-inch border around the edges.
  • Add the brie cheese: Cut the brie cheese into small chunks and place them in the hollowed-out bread.
  • Caramelize the onions: In a skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and cook until they are caramelized, about 15-20 minutes.
  • Sweeten the onions: Stir in the brown sugar and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes.
  • Season and assemble: Season the onion mixture with salt and pepper, then pour it over the brie cheese in the bread bowl.
  • Bake: Place the bread bowl on a baking sheet and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  • Serve: Serve warm and enjoy with the bread and caramelized onions.

Notes

  • You can add fresh thyme or rosemary to the caramelized onions for additional flavor.
  • If you prefer, substitute the brie with camembert cheese for a slightly different flavor.
  • Serve with the bread you hollowed out for dipping, or add crackers for extra variety.
