Ingredients
Scale
- 1 large round loaf of bread
- 1 wheel of brie cheese
- 2 onions, thinly sliced
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- Salt and pepper, to taste
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Prepare the bread bowl: Cut the top off the loaf of bread and hollow out the center, leaving about a 1-inch border around the edges.
- Add the brie cheese: Cut the brie cheese into small chunks and place them in the hollowed-out bread.
- Caramelize the onions: In a skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and cook until they are caramelized, about 15-20 minutes.
- Sweeten the onions: Stir in the brown sugar and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes.
- Season and assemble: Season the onion mixture with salt and pepper, then pour it over the brie cheese in the bread bowl.
- Bake: Place the bread bowl on a baking sheet and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Serve: Serve warm and enjoy with the bread and caramelized onions.
Notes
- You can add fresh thyme or rosemary to the caramelized onions for additional flavor.
- If you prefer, substitute the brie with camembert cheese for a slightly different flavor.
- Serve with the bread you hollowed out for dipping, or add crackers for extra variety.
