Description

This vibrant and flavorful Caribbean Pepper Steak combines tender sirloin steak with the perfect balance of savory soy sauce, aromatic thyme, and a spicy kick from the bell peppers and seasonings. It’s a dish that’s full of bold flavors, perfect for an easy weeknight dinner or a special occasion meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb sirloin steak, thinly sliced
  • ¼ cup beef stock
  • ½ green bell pepper, sliced
  • ½ red bell pepper, sliced
  • ¼ onion, thinly sliced
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • ½ tablespoon seasoning salt
  • 1 ½ teaspoon cornstarch
  • ½ teaspoon ginger paste (or freshly grated ginger)
  • 2 teaspoons minced garlic
  • 2 green onions, chopped
  • 4 sprigs of thyme
  • 2 tablespoons cooking oil

Instructions

  • In a small bowl, mix the cornstarch with the beef stock and set it aside.
  • Heat the cooking oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the sliced sirloin steak and stir-fry for 3-4 minutes, or until the steak is browned and cooked through. Remove the steak from the pan and set it aside.
  • In the same pan, add the sliced onions, green and red bell peppers, and cook for 2-3 minutes, stirring occasionally until the vegetables begin to soften.
  • Add the minced garlic, ginger paste, soy sauce, seasoning salt, and thyme to the pan. Stir well and cook for another 1-2 minutes, allowing the flavors to combine.
  • Return the cooked steak to the pan. Stir in the beef stock mixture and cook for 2-3 more minutes until the sauce thickens and coats the steak and vegetables.
  • Garnish with chopped green onions and serve immediately with rice or as a standalone dish.

Notes

  • You can substitute the sirloin steak with other cuts like flank steak or ribeye, but sirloin gives the best balance of tenderness and flavor.
  • Adjust the amount of ginger paste to your taste preference; freshly grated ginger will offer a more intense flavor.
  • For extra heat, add sliced chili peppers or a dash of hot sauce to the dish.
