Description

This Cheesy Broccoli and Cauliflower Bake is a comforting dish featuring tender broccoli and cauliflower florets mixed with smoky sausage and creamy cheese. It’s perfect as a hearty side dish or a light main course.


Ingredients

  • 1 pound broccoli florets
  • ½ pound cauliflower florets
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 small yellow onion, finely diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 12 ounces smoked sausage (Polish or Andouille), sliced into 1-inch rounds
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, room temperature, cut into cubes
  • ½ cup mayonnaise (or substitute with plain yogurt or sour cream)
  • 2 cups shredded Mexican blend cheese, divided
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • Salt and fresh ground black pepper, to taste

Instructions

 Preheat Oven:

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and lightly grease a 9×13 baking dish. Set aside.

2. Prepare Vegetables:

  • Fill a large pot halfway with water and bring it to a boil. Add the broccoli and cauliflower florets. Cook for 3 minutes. Drain well and set aside.

3. Cook Aromatics:

  • In a skillet, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Add the diced onion and cook for 2 minutes. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional 15 seconds.

4. Brown Sausage:

  • Add the smoked sausage to the skillet. Cook for 3 minutes or until browned on all sides, stirring frequently.

5. Combine Ingredients:

  • Transfer the cooked broccoli, cauliflower, and sausage mixture to the prepared baking dish.

6. Make the Creamy Mixture:

  • In a mixing bowl, combine cream cheese, mayonnaise, 1 cup of shredded cheese, Dijon mustard, salt, and pepper. Mix until thoroughly incorporated.

7. Mix and Bake:

  • Stir the cream cheese mixture into the broccoli and sausage mixture in the baking dish until well combined. Sprinkle the remaining shredded cheese on top.

8. Bake:

  • Bake in the preheated oven for 12 to 15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the top is golden brown. Remove from oven and serve.
