½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, sliced into pats
-
Chopped parsley, for garnish (optional)
Instructions
-
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
-
In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned and fully cooked. Drain excess fat.
-
In a 9×13-inch baking dish, combine the uncooked rice, French onion soup, beef consomme, and cooked ground beef. Stir to evenly distribute.
-
Place butter pats evenly over the top of the mixture.
-
Cover the dish tightly with aluminum foil.
-
Bake for 1 hour, then remove the foil and bake an additional 10–15 minutes, or until the rice is tender and liquid is absorbed.
- Let rest for 5 minutes before serving. Garnish with chopped parsley if desired.
Notes
For extra cheesiness, sprinkle 1 to 1½ cups of shredded cheddar over the casserole during the last 10 minutes of baking. You can also add sautéed mushrooms or bell peppers for extra flavor and texture.
