Description

This quick and flavorful Chinese Beef and Onion Stir-Fry features tender beef slices marinated in savory soy and oyster sauces, paired with sweet onions and aromatic garlic. It’s a perfect dish for a busy weeknight, served hot with steamed rice for a satisfying meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb beef, thinly sliced (flank steak or sirloin works well)
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil

Instructions

  • In a bowl, combine the beef with soy sauce, oyster sauce, sugar, and black pepper. Marinate for 30 minutes.
  • Heat vegetable oil in a pan or wok over high heat.
  • Add the minced garlic and stir-fry for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
  • Add the marinated beef to the pan and cook until browned and cooked through, about 3-5 minutes.
  • Add the sliced onions to the pan and continue to stir-fry until the onions become soft and translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
  • Serve the stir-fry hot with steamed rice.

Notes

  • For added flavor, you can sprinkle a pinch of sesame seeds or drizzle with a little sesame oil just before serving.
  • Feel free to add vegetables like bell peppers, mushrooms, or snow peas for extra color and crunch.
  • If you prefer a thicker sauce, mix a teaspoon of cornstarch with a little water and add to the pan in the last step to thicken.
