Description

These Christmas Butter Cookies are a classic holiday treat, buttery and sweet with a soft, melt-in-your-mouth texture. Perfect for the festive season, they can be shaped into fun holiday forms and decorated with icing or sprinkles for a colorful, joyful addition to your holiday celebrations.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Cream the butter and sugar: In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until smooth and light in texture.
  • Add the egg and vanilla: Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined.
  • Mix in the dry ingredients: Gradually add the baking powder and flour, mixing until the dough comes together and is smooth.
  • Roll out the dough: On a floured surface, roll out the dough to about 1/4 inch thickness. Use cookie cutters to cut into desired shapes.
  • Bake the cookies: Place the cookies on a lined baking sheet and bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
  • Cool and decorate: Allow the cookies to cool completely before decorating with icing or sprinkles, if desired, or serve plain.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, you can add a pinch of salt to balance the sweetness or a dash of almond extract for a twist.
  • The dough can be chilled for 30 minutes before rolling out to make it easier to work with.
  • Store the cookies in an airtight container for up to a week, or freeze them for longer storage.
