Ingredients

Scale
  • For the Filling:
    • 1 cup shredded cabbage
    • 1 cup carrots, julienned
    • 1 bell pepper, thinly sliced
    • ½ cup bean sprouts
    • 2 green onions, finely chopped
    • 1 cup cooked shrimp, chicken, or tofu (optional)
    • 2 cloves garlic, minced
    • 1 tbsp soy sauce
    • 1 tsp sesame oil
    • Salt and pepper to taste
  • For the Wrappers:
    • 1 package spring roll wrappers (about 10-12)
    • Oil for frying (vegetable or peanut oil)

Instructions

  • Prepare the Filling:
    • Heat a small amount of oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
    • Sauté the minced garlic until fragrant.
    • Add the cabbage, carrots, bell pepper, bean sprouts, and protein (if using).
    • Stir-fry for 5-7 minutes until the vegetables are tender-crisp.
    • Stir in soy sauce, sesame oil, salt, and pepper.
    • Remove from heat and let the filling cool slightly.
  • Assemble the Spring Rolls:
    • Place a spring roll wrapper on a clean, dry surface with one corner pointing toward you.
    • Place a generous tablespoon of the filling near the bottom corner.
    • Fold the bottom corner over the filling, fold in the sides, and roll tightly toward the top corner.
    • Seal the edge with a dab of water.
    • Repeat with the remaining wrappers and filling.
  • Fry the Spring Rolls:
    • Heat oil in a deep pan or fryer to 350°F (175°C).
    • Fry the spring rolls in batches, turning occasionally, until golden brown and crispy (about 2-3 minutes).
    • Remove and place on paper towels to drain excess oil.
  • Serve:
    • Serve the crispy spring rolls warm with sweet chili sauce, soy sauce, or your favorite dipping sauce.
    • Enjoy these crunchy, flavorful appetizers that are perfect for any gathering!

Notes

  • If you prefer baked spring rolls, brush them lightly with oil and bake at 400°F (200°C) for about 15-20 minutes or until crispy.
  • Feel free to customize the filling by adding or swapping out vegetables based on your preference.
  • For a gluten-free version, ensure to use gluten-free soy sauce and wrappers.
