Description

Crostata is a classic Italian dessert that features a buttery, flaky crust filled with a sweet jam of your choice. The combination of rich dough and tart fruit preserves creates a perfect balance of flavor, making it an ideal treat for any occasion. This simple yet elegant dessert will impress family and friends alike.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 1 ¼ cup butter (room temperature)
  • Zest of 1 lemon (about 1 tbsp)
  • 1 ¼ cup strawberry jam

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, and baking powder.
  • Add the eggs, egg yolks, butter, and lemon zest to the flour mixture. Use your hands or a pastry cutter to combine the ingredients until a dough forms.
  • Once the dough is well-mixed, divide it into two portions. Roll out the larger portion on a floured surface to fit your tart pan.
  • Place the rolled dough into a tart pan, pressing it into the bottom and sides. Trim any excess dough from the edges.
  • Spread the strawberry jam evenly over the bottom of the dough.
  • Roll out the second portion of dough and cut it into strips to create a lattice pattern on top of the jam.
  • Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown.
  • Remove from the oven and let it cool before serving.

Notes

  • Feel free to use any jam flavor you prefer, such as apricot, raspberry, or peach, to customize the tart to your liking.
  • Make sure the butter is soft enough to blend easily into the dough for a smooth texture.
