Description

Dark Chocolate Sea Salt Almonds are a perfectly balanced snack that combines the rich bitterness of dark chocolate, the crunch of roasted almonds, and a hint of sea salt. This easy-to-make treat offers a delightful sweet and salty harmony, nutrient-rich almonds, and a versatile snack option that can be enjoyed on its own or as a topping for desserts and yogurt.

Ingredients

Scale

Almonds

  • 1 cup raw almonds

Chocolate Coating

  • 6 oz dark chocolate (at least 70% cocoa)
  • 1 teaspoon coconut oil (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon honey or maple syrup (optional, if chocolate is very bitter)

Finishing

  • Sea salt flakes, about 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon

Instructions

  1. Roast the Almonds: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Spread raw almonds evenly on a baking sheet and roast for 10-12 minutes until fragrant and slightly darker. Allow them to cool before coating.
  2. Melt the Dark Chocolate: In a heatproof bowl over simmering water or using a double boiler, gently melt the dark chocolate with a touch of coconut oil, stirring frequently until smooth. If desired, stir in honey or maple syrup to balance bitterness.
  3. Combine Almonds and Chocolate: Stir the roasted almonds into the melted chocolate, ensuring each almond is fully coated with a glossy layer of chocolate.
  4. Portion and Sprinkle Sea Salt: Using a fork or spoon, place coated almonds on parchment paper in a single layer. Quickly sprinkle sea salt flakes over the chocolate before it sets to lock in flavor.
  5. Chill and Set: Place the almonds in the refrigerator for about 20-30 minutes until the chocolate hardens completely. Once set, store in an airtight container for freshness.

Notes

  • Use high-quality chocolate to ensure better melting and richer taste.
  • Do not over-roast almonds; 10-12 minutes is sufficient to bring out flavor without burning.
  • Sprinkle sea salt immediately after coating while chocolate is still wet for best adhesion.
  • If chocolate thickens too fast, rewarm gently to keep it smooth while coating.
  • Store almonds in a cool, dry place to preserve crunch and prevent melting.
