Ingredients
-
-
2 tablespoons olive oil, divided
-
1 onion, diced
-
1 pound ground beef
-
1 pound ground pork
-
½ cup Panko
-
2 large egg yolks
-
¼ teaspoon ground allspice
-
¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
-
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
-
For the Gravy:
-
-
¼ cup unsalted butter
-
⅓ cup all-purpose flour
-
4 cups beef broth
-
¾ cup sour cream
-
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
-
2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley leaves
-
Instructions
-
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
-
Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the diced onion and sauté until softened and golden. Remove from heat and set aside.
-
In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, ground pork, Panko, egg yolks, ground allspice, and ground nutmeg. Add salt and pepper to taste. Mix well.
-
Shape the meat mixture into small meatballs (about 1 inch in diameter) and place them on a baking sheet.
-
Drizzle with the remaining tablespoon of olive oil and bake for 20-25 minutes or until the meatballs are cooked through and golden brown.
-
While the meatballs bake, make the gravy. In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour to make a roux. Cook for 1-2 minutes until the mixture is golden.
-
Gradually whisk in the beef broth, making sure to stir constantly to avoid lumps. Bring to a simmer and cook for about 5 minutes until the gravy thickens.
-
Stir in the sour cream, salt, and pepper. Adjust seasoning if necessary.
-
Remove the meatballs from the oven and serve with the gravy. Garnish with chopped parsley.
Notes
-
For a lighter version, you can substitute ground turkey or chicken for the beef and pork.
-
Serve with mashed potatoes or rice for a complete meal.
-
If you prefer a thicker gravy, cook it a little longer to reduce it.
