Description

This Chinese Ground Beef and Cabbage Stir Fry is a quick, flavorful, and healthy weeknight dinner. Ground beef is cooked with tender cabbage and seasoned with savory soy sauce, garlic, and ginger, bringing authentic Chinese flavors to your table in just 20 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 1 medium head of cabbage, thinly sliced
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce (optional, for deeper flavor)
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon rice vinegar
  • ½ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 2 green onions, sliced (for garnish)

Instructions

  • Cook the ground beef: Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and cook, breaking it up with a spatula, until browned and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes. Remove any excess fat if necessary.

  • Sauté the aromatics: Add the chopped onion, minced garlic, and grated ginger to the skillet with the beef. Cook for about 2 minutes, stirring occasionally until fragrant.

  • Cook the cabbage: Add the sliced cabbage to the skillet and stir well. Cook for 4-5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage softens and begins to wilt.

  • Add the seasonings: Stir in the soy sauce, sesame oil, rice vinegar, and crushed red pepper flakes if using. Cook for another 2-3 minutes until the cabbage is tender and the flavors have melded.

  • Serve: Garnish with sliced green onions and serve immediately.

Notes

  • For added flavor, you can sprinkle toasted sesame seeds on top before serving.
  • You can swap the ground beef for ground turkey or chicken if you prefer a leaner version.
  • If you like your stir fry with a bit more heat, increase the amount of crushed red pepper flakes.
