Description
Soft, fluffy homemade bread made with simple ingredients and minimal effort. Perfect for beginners, this bread is ideal for sandwiches, toast, or enjoying fresh with butter.
Ingredients
-
1 cup warm water (110-115°F)
-
2 ¼ teaspoons dry yeast (1 packet)
-
2 tablespoons sugar or honey
-
2 tablespoons olive oil, avocado oil, or any neutral oil
-
3 to 3 ¼ cups bread flour or unbleached all-purpose flour
-
1 teaspoon salt
-
Butter (optional, for brushing on top)
Instructions
-
In a large bowl, dissolve the yeast and sugar (or honey) in warm water. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
-
Add oil, salt, and 2 cups of flour to the yeast mixture. Stir to combine.
-
Gradually add remaining flour, ½ cup at a time, mixing until a soft dough forms.
-
Turn dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Add more flour if needed to prevent sticking.
-
Place dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a clean towel, and let rise in a warm place for 1 to 1 ½ hours, or until doubled in size.
-
Punch down the dough and shape into a loaf. Place it in a greased loaf pan or on a baking sheet. Cover and let rise for another 30-45 minutes.
-
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Optionally, brush the top of the loaf with melted butter for a golden crust.
-
Bake for 30-35 minutes or until the bread sounds hollow when tapped and is golden brown.
- Remove from oven and cool on a wire rack before slicing.
Notes
-
For a softer crust, cover the loaf with foil during the last 10 minutes of baking.
-
Add herbs or garlic powder to the dough for flavored bread variations.
- Store bread wrapped in a cloth or bread bag to maintain freshness.
