Description

This simple homemade white bread recipe is perfect for beginners. With just a few ingredients, you can make soft, fluffy bread with a golden crust. Enjoy it fresh from the oven for sandwiches, toast, or just with butter!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil

Instructions

  • In a large bowl, combine the flour, yeast, sugar, and salt.
  • Add the warm water and vegetable oil to the dry ingredients.
  • Mix until a dough forms.
  • Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes, or until smooth and elastic.
  • Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let it rise for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  • Punch down the dough and shape it into a loaf.
  • Place the dough in a greased loaf pan, cover with a towel, and let it rise for another 30 minutes.
  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Bake the bread for 30-35 minutes, or until golden brown on top.
  • Let the bread cool before slicing.

Notes

  • You can substitute the vegetable oil with olive oil or melted butter for a richer flavor.
  • If you prefer a slightly sweeter bread, you can increase the sugar to 3 tablespoons.
  • Make sure the water is warm (not hot) to activate the yeast, about 110°F (43°C).
