Description

This Easy Strawberry Shortcake Trifle is a simple and delicious dessert that layers moist yellow cake, sweet strawberry filling, and fluffy whipped cream. Perfect for any occasion, it’s a beautiful, refreshing treat that’s sure to impress.

Ingredients

Scale

Cake:

  • 1 box yellow cake mix
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup water
  • ½ cup vegetable oil

Strawberry Filling:

  • 1 lb fresh strawberries
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice

Whipped Cream:

  • 2 cups heavy whipping cream
  • ½ cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Instructions

  • Make the Cake: Preheat your oven according to the cake mix instructions. Prepare the cake mix by combining the yellow cake mix, eggs, water, and vegetable oil in a bowl. Follow the package directions to bake the cake in a greased pan. Once done, let it cool completely before cutting it into cubes.
  • Prepare the Strawberry Filling: Wash and hull the strawberries, then slice them. In a bowl, mix the sliced strawberries with the sugar and lemon juice. Let it sit for 15-20 minutes to draw out the juices, creating a syrupy filling.
  • Make the Whipped Cream: In a chilled bowl, beat the heavy whipping cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla on high speed until stiff peaks form.
  • Assemble the Trifle: In a large trifle dish or individual serving glasses, layer the cake cubes, strawberry filling (with syrup), and whipped cream. Repeat the layers until you’ve used all ingredients, finishing with a layer of whipped cream on top.
  • Chill: Refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving to allow the flavors to meld.
  • Serve: Garnish with extra fresh strawberries if desired and serve chilled.

Notes

  • You can substitute the yellow cake mix with a homemade cake recipe if preferred.
  • For a more indulgent version, drizzle the cake layers with a little sweetened condensed milk.
  • This dessert can be made a day ahead, which allows the flavors to meld even more.
