Ingredients
Scale
Cake:
- 1 box yellow cake mix
- 2 eggs
- 1 cup water
- ½ cup vegetable oil
Strawberry Filling:
- 1 lb fresh strawberries
- ¼ cup sugar
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
Whipped Cream:
- 2 cups heavy whipping cream
- ½ cup powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
Instructions
- Make the Cake: Preheat your oven according to the cake mix instructions. Prepare the cake mix by combining the yellow cake mix, eggs, water, and vegetable oil in a bowl. Follow the package directions to bake the cake in a greased pan. Once done, let it cool completely before cutting it into cubes.
- Prepare the Strawberry Filling: Wash and hull the strawberries, then slice them. In a bowl, mix the sliced strawberries with the sugar and lemon juice. Let it sit for 15-20 minutes to draw out the juices, creating a syrupy filling.
- Make the Whipped Cream: In a chilled bowl, beat the heavy whipping cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla on high speed until stiff peaks form.
- Assemble the Trifle: In a large trifle dish or individual serving glasses, layer the cake cubes, strawberry filling (with syrup), and whipped cream. Repeat the layers until you’ve used all ingredients, finishing with a layer of whipped cream on top.
- Chill: Refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving to allow the flavors to meld.
- Serve: Garnish with extra fresh strawberries if desired and serve chilled.
Notes
- You can substitute the yellow cake mix with a homemade cake recipe if preferred.
- For a more indulgent version, drizzle the cake layers with a little sweetened condensed milk.
- This dessert can be made a day ahead, which allows the flavors to meld even more.
