Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound ground meat (chicken, turkey, or pork)
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 teaspoon grated ginger
- 1 medium head of green cabbage, thinly sliced
- 2 medium carrots, shredded
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 1 teaspoon rice vinegar
- 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
- 2 green onions, sliced (for garnish)
- Optional: sesame seeds, for garnish
Instructions
- Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
- Add the ground meat and cook, breaking it apart with a spoon, until fully cooked and browned. Remove from the pan and set aside.
- In the same pan, add the chopped onion and cook until softened, about 3-4 minutes.
- Add the garlic and grated ginger, cooking for another 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
- Stir in the sliced cabbage and shredded carrots. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the vegetables are tender but still crisp, about 5-7 minutes.
- Return the cooked ground meat to the pan.
- Add the soy sauce, sesame oil, rice vinegar, and red pepper flakes (if using). Stir to combine and heat through.
- Taste and adjust seasoning, adding more soy sauce or vinegar if desired.
- Garnish with sliced green onions and sesame seeds (optional) before serving.
Notes
- Feel free to swap the ground meat for a vegetarian alternative like tofu or tempeh for a plant-based version.
- For extra crunch, serve with a side of crispy rice or over a bed of quinoa.
- To make this a complete meal, consider adding some cooked rice to the stir fry.
