Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups milk
- 1 egg
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 2 cups flour
- Pinch of salt
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 6 tablespoons butter, melted
Instructions
- Mix Wet Ingredients: In a medium-sized bowl, whisk together the milk, egg, vanilla extract, and melted butter.
- Add Dry Ingredients: Stir in the salt, baking soda, and sugar. Slowly fold in the flour until the batter becomes smooth.
- Prepare for Frying: Pour the batter mixture into a gallon-sized Ziplock bag and set aside for a few minutes.
- Heat the Oil: Pour vegetable oil into a frying pan until it’s about 1 inch deep. Heat the oil over high heat for about 2 minutes, then reduce to medium heat. Test the oil by dropping a small drop of batter into it. If it bubbles around the edges, the oil is ready. If not, turn up the heat a bit more until it’s hot.
- Cook the Bites: Cut a small hole in the bottom corner of the Ziplock bag. Slowly drizzle batter into 1 to 2 circles in the hot oil. Cook until the bottom half is golden brown. Gently flip the bites with a slotted spatula and cook the other side until golden brown.
- Drain and Serve: Place the cooked bites on paper towels to soak up excess grease. Sprinkle with powdered sugar. Serve warm with whipped cream or fruit as desired.
Notes
For extra flavor, consider adding cinnamon to the batter or serving with chocolate sauce for dipping.
