This flavorful tandoori chicken marinade infuses chicken with the bold and aromatic spices of cumin, cinnamon, cayenne, and ginger. Perfectly grilled, the result is a juicy and spicy chicken dish that’s sure to be a hit at your next cookout.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup plain yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 2 teaspoons ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 2 teaspoons cayenne pepper
  • 2 teaspoons freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon minced fresh ginger
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3 boneless skinless chicken breasts, cut into bite-size pieces

Instructions

  • Prepare the marinade: In a large bowl, combine the yogurt, lemon juice, cumin, cinnamon, cayenne, black pepper, ginger, and salt. Stir in the chicken pieces until well coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
  • Preheat the grill: Preheat the grill to high heat.
  • Grill the chicken: Lightly oil the grill grate. Thread the marinated chicken onto skewers and discard any leftover marinade. Grill the chicken until the juices run clear, about 5 minutes on each side.

Notes

  • For an even richer flavor, marinate the chicken for longer than 1 hour, ideally overnight.
  • If you prefer, you can cook the chicken in the oven at 400°F for 20-25 minutes.
  • Serve with naan or rice for a complete meal.
