Description

A comforting, hearty dish featuring seasoned ground beef and savory gravy served over creamy mashed potatoes. Perfect for a satisfying family dinner.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Gravy:

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon thyme (optional)
  • 1 cup frozen peas and carrots (optional)

For the Mashed Potatoes:

  • 2 pounds potatoes, peeled and quartered
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

  • Begin by preparing the mashed potatoes. Place the peeled and quartered potatoes into a large pot of salted water. Bring to a boil and cook until tender, about 15-20 minutes.
  • Drain the potatoes and return them to the pot. Add the butter, milk, and salt and pepper to taste. Mash the potatoes until smooth and creamy. Set aside.
  • In a large skillet, cook the ground beef over medium heat, breaking it apart as it cooks. Once browned, drain any excess fat.
  • Add the diced onion and minced garlic to the skillet, cooking until softened, about 5 minutes.
  • Stir in the flour to thicken the mixture, cooking for 1-2 minutes.
  • Gradually add the beef broth, stirring constantly to prevent lumps.
  • Stir in the Worcestershire sauce and thyme (if using). Let the gravy simmer until it thickens, about 5-7 minutes.
  • If desired, stir in the peas and carrots.
  • Serve the savory ground beef gravy over the mashed potatoes. Enjoy!

Notes

  • You can add more vegetables like corn or green beans for additional flavor.
  • If the gravy gets too thick, add more beef broth or a splash of water to reach your desired consistency.
  • For a richer flavor, consider using beef stock instead of broth.
