Ingredients
-
1 ½ lbs chicken thighs or breasts (boneless, skinless)
-
2 tbsp olive oil
-
3 garlic cloves, minced
-
¼ cup soy sauce (low sodium preferred)
-
¼ cup honey
-
2 tbsp rice vinegar or apple cider vinegar
-
1 tsp cornstarch (optional, for thickening)
-
1 tbsp water (if using cornstarch)
-
1 tsp sesame seeds (optional, for garnish)
-
2 tbsp chopped green onions (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
-
Cook the Chicken:
-
Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
-
Add the chicken thighs or breasts to the skillet and cook for 5-7 minutes per side, until golden brown and cooked through. Remove the chicken from the skillet and set it aside.
-
-
Prepare the Honey Garlic Sauce:
-
In the same skillet, add minced garlic and sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
-
Stir in soy sauce, honey, and rice vinegar. Bring to a simmer and cook for 3-4 minutes, allowing the sauce to reduce slightly.
-
(Optional) If you prefer a thicker sauce, dissolve cornstarch in water and add it to the skillet. Stir until the sauce thickens to your desired consistency.
-
-
Combine Chicken and Sauce:
-
Return the chicken to the skillet and coat it in the sauce, cooking for an additional 2-3 minutes, allowing the chicken to soak up the flavors.
-
-
Garnish and Serve:
-
Sprinkle sesame seeds and chopped green onions over the chicken before serving.
-
Serve the honey garlic chicken with rice, vegetables, or your favorite side dishes.
-
Notes
-
You can substitute chicken breasts for thighs depending on your preference for a leaner or juicier cut of meat.
-
If you want to add some spice, you can incorporate red pepper flakes into the sauce for a mild kick.
-
This dish pairs wonderfully with steamed rice or stir-fried vegetables.
