This German Chocolate Poke Cake is a mouthwatering dessert filled with rich caramel and condensed milk, topped with a fluffy layer of Cool Whip, shredded coconut, and chopped pecans. A decadent treat for any occasion, it’s the perfect combination of flavors and textures that will leave everyone asking for seconds.

Ingredients

Scale
  • For the Cake:

    • 1 box German chocolate cake mix (plus ingredients listed on the box: eggs, oil, and water)
  • For the Filling:

    • 1 (14 oz) can sweetened condensed milk
    • 1 (12 oz) jar caramel sauce
  • For the Topping:

    • 1 cup sweetened shredded coconut
    • 1 cup chopped pecans
    • 1 (8 oz) container Cool Whip or whipped topping
    • ¼ cup chocolate chips, melted (optional for drizzle)

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven according to the instructions on the cake mix box and prepare the cake batter as directed.
  • Pour the batter into a greased 9×13-inch baking dish and bake according to the package instructions.
  • Once the cake is baked, remove it from the oven and let it cool for about 10 minutes.
  • Use the handle of a wooden spoon or a similar tool to poke holes all over the top of the cake.
  • In a bowl, combine the sweetened condensed milk and caramel sauce. Pour the mixture over the warm cake, making sure it seeps into the holes.
  • Allow the cake to cool completely, then refrigerate for at least 2 hours.
  • Once the cake is chilled, spread the Cool Whip or whipped topping evenly over the top.
  • Sprinkle the shredded coconut and chopped pecans over the whipped topping.
  • If desired, drizzle melted chocolate chips over the top for an extra touch of indulgence.
  • Slice and serve chilled. Enjoy!

Notes

  • For an extra layer of flavor, you can also add a layer of chocolate ganache before topping with Cool Whip.
  • Make sure the cake has cooled completely before refrigerating to avoid the topping melting.
