Description

These Jalapeño Cheddar Biscuits are irresistibly flaky and packed with a spicy kick from fresh jalapeños and the rich flavor of cheddar cheese. Perfect as a side dish or snack, they bring a delightful twist to traditional biscuits.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, very cold and cubed
  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour, plus more for dusting
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 2 tablespoons fresh jalapeño peppers, finely chopped
  • 1 cup cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1/2 cup cold buttermilk, plus 1 tablespoon for brushing
  • 6 jalapeño slices (optional, for topping)

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
  • In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, sugar, salt, and garlic powder.
  • Cut the cold, cubed butter into the dry ingredients using a pastry cutter or your hands until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Add the chopped jalapeños and shredded cheddar cheese to the mixture, and stir to combine.
  • Pour in the cold buttermilk and gently mix until just combined. Be careful not to overwork the dough.
  • Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and gently knead it a few times until it comes together. Pat the dough into a 1-inch thick rectangle.
  • Using a biscuit cutter or a glass, cut out biscuits from the dough. Place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  • Brush the tops of the biscuits with the remaining 1 tablespoon of buttermilk.
  • Optional: Top each biscuit with a jalapeño slice for extra flavor.
  • Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the biscuits are golden brown and cooked through.
  • Serve warm.

Notes

  • For extra cheese flavor, you can mix in a bit more cheddar cheese into the dough or sprinkle some on top before baking.
  • You can adjust the spice level by adding more or less jalapeño depending on your preference.
