Description

This King’s Hawaiian Cheesecake Danish recipe transforms soft, sweet rolls into a luscious, bakery-style treat. Filled with creamy cheesecake, topped with a buttery cinnamon-sugar glaze, and baked to golden perfection, these easy danishes are perfect for breakfast, brunch, or dessert—no pastry dough required.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 tablespoon butter, melted (for brushing)

  • 1 (12-pack) Hawaiian sweet rolls (e.g., King’s Hawaiian)

  • 1/3 cup butter, melted

  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar

  • 1/2 tablespoon ground cinnamon

  • 1/8 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg (optional, reduce if desired)

  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened

  • 1 large egg, beaten

  • 3 tablespoons granulated sugar

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking pan with parchment paper or lightly grease it.

  • Without separating the rolls, cut the entire 12-pack of Hawaiian rolls in half horizontally, creating a top and bottom slab. Place the bottom half in the prepared pan.

  • In a bowl, beat cream cheese, granulated sugar, and beaten egg until smooth and creamy.

  • Spread the cream cheese mixture evenly over the bottom layer of rolls. Place the top half of the rolls back on.

  • In a small bowl, combine 1/3 cup melted butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Mix until well combined.

  • Brush the tops of the rolls generously with the cinnamon-sugar butter mixture.

  • Bake for 18–22 minutes or until the tops are golden brown and the filling is set.

  • Remove from oven, brush with the reserved 1 tablespoon melted butter, and let cool slightly before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • Add a drizzle of vanilla or cream cheese glaze on top for extra sweetness.

  • Make sure the cream cheese is fully softened for a smooth filling.

  • You can assemble this the night before and bake fresh in the morning.

  • For more texture, sprinkle chopped pecans or walnuts on top before baking.
