Ingredients
-
1 tablespoon sesame oil
-
1 tablespoon cornstarch
-
1/2 cup soy sauce
-
1/2 cup rice vinegar
-
3/4 cup brown sugar
-
6 cloves garlic, minced
-
1 teaspoon ground ginger
-
1 teaspoon sesame seeds
-
1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
-
8 chicken drumsticks
-
2 tablespoons sliced green onions (for garnish)
-
1 teaspoon sesame seeds (for garnish)
Instructions
-
Prepare the glaze: In a small saucepan, heat sesame oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic and cook for about 1 minute, until fragrant. Stir in ground ginger, soy sauce, rice vinegar, brown sugar, and crushed red pepper flakes. Bring the mixture to a simmer and cook for about 5-7 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken slightly.
-
Thicken the sauce: In a small bowl, mix cornstarch with a tablespoon of water to create a slurry. Slowly add the slurry to the simmering sauce, stirring continuously until it thickens to a glaze consistency.
-
Prepare the drumsticks: Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Place the chicken drumsticks on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or aluminum foil. Season with a little salt and pepper.
-
Coat the drumsticks: Brush or spoon the prepared glaze over the chicken drumsticks, making sure they are evenly coated.
-
Bake: Bake the drumsticks in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, basting with additional glaze every 10 minutes, until the chicken is fully cooked and golden brown. The internal temperature should reach 165°F (74°C).
-
Garnish and serve: Remove the drumsticks from the oven and sprinkle with sesame seeds and sliced green onions for garnish. Serve hot.
Notes
-
For extra flavor, marinate the chicken in the glaze for 1-2 hours before cooking.
-
You can also cook the drumsticks on the grill instead of baking them for a smoky flavor.
- If you prefer a milder dish, reduce the crushed red pepper flakes or omit them altogether.
