  • 1 small onion, finely chopped

For the Maple Glazed Bacon:

  • 6 slices bacon
  • 3 tbsp maple syrup

For the Cheese Sauce:

  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1½ cups milk
  • 1½ cups cheddar cheese, shredded
  • A pinch of cayenne pepper (optional)

For Assembly:

  • 1 cup cheese curds (optional, for classic poutine)
  • 2 tbsp chopped green onions (for garnish)

Instructions

  • Prepare the Fries:
    • Cook the French fries according to the package instructions. Season with salt and set aside.
  • Make the Cheeseburger Topping:
    • Heat a skillet over medium heat. Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it into crumbles.
    • Add chopped onion, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Cook until onions are softened. Set aside.
  • Make the Maple Glazed Bacon:
    • Cook bacon in a skillet until crisp. Remove and drain on paper towels.
    • Brush bacon with maple syrup and place under the broiler for 1-2 minutes to caramelize. Chop into pieces.
  • Prepare the Cheese Sauce:
    • In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Stir in flour and cook for 1 minute.
    • Gradually whisk in milk and cook until thickened.
    • Add shredded cheese and stir until melted. Season with cayenne (if desired).
  • Assemble the Poutine:
    • Place fries on a large serving platter. Top with cheese curds (if using).
    • Add the ground beef mixture and drizzle with cheese sauce.
    • Sprinkle chopped maple-glazed bacon on top.
    • Garnish with green onions and serve immediately.
