These Maraschino Cherry Chocolate Chip Cookies are a delightful twist on the classic chocolate chip cookie. With the sweetness of maraschino cherries and the richness of dark chocolate, these cookies are a perfect combination of chewy, sweet, and slightly tangy. A sprinkle of flakey sea salt on top makes them irresistible!
Ingredients
-
¾ cup butter, softened (dairy-free or regular)
-
½ cup granulated sugar
-
½ cup light brown sugar
-
1 egg
-
½ tablespoon vanilla extract
-
¾ teaspoon salt
-
¾ teaspoon baking soda
-
2 cups + 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
-
¾ cup maraschino cherries, pitted and chopped small
-
¾ cup chopped dark or semisweet chocolate
-
Flakey sea salt, for sprinkling on top
Instructions
-
Preheat the oven:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone baking mats. -
Cream the wet ingredients:
In a large mixing bowl, beat together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes. Add the egg and vanilla extract and continue to beat until combined. -
Mix the dry ingredients:
In a separate bowl, whisk together the salt, baking soda, and flour. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. -
Add the cherries and chocolate:
Gently fold in the chopped maraschino cherries and chopped dark or semisweet chocolate. -
Form the cookie dough:
Using a tablespoon or cookie scoop, portion out the dough onto the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart. -
Bake the cookies:
Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are golden and the centers are set. Keep an eye on them to avoid overbaking. -
Sprinkle with sea salt:
Once the cookies are out of the oven, sprinkle a small pinch of flakey sea salt on top of each warm cookie. Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheets for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely. - Serve:
Enjoy these chewy, sweet, and slightly salty cookies with a glass of milk or as a treat on their own!
Notes
-
Make sure to chop the maraschino cherries finely to avoid the dough becoming too wet.
-
You can adjust the amount of sea salt based on your personal taste preference.
- For a fun twist, use white chocolate chips or milk chocolate chips instead of dark chocolate.
