This indulgent breakfast treat combines the rich flavors of crème brûlée with the comfort of French toast. Prepared the night before, it bakes up into a golden, caramelized delight that’s perfect for a special breakfast or brunch.


Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons corn syrup
  • French bread, cut into 1-inch slices
  • 5 large eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups half-and-half cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon orange zest
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  • In a small saucepan, melt butter, brown sugar, and corn syrup until smooth.
  • Pour the mixture into a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  • Arrange the bread slices in the dish.
  • In a bowl, whisk together eggs, half-and-half, vanilla extract, orange zest, and salt.
  • Pour the mixture over the bread slices, making sure all pieces are coated.
  • Cover and refrigerate overnight.
  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Remove the dish from the refrigerator and let it stand at room temperature for 30 minutes.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, or until golden brown.
  • Serve hot and enjoy!
