Description

This Overnight Crème Brûlée French Toast is the perfect breakfast or brunch dish, featuring a rich, caramelized sugar crust and soft, custardy center. The preparation the night before makes it an easy, indulgent treat for busy mornings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons corn syrup
  • French bread, sliced and cut into cubes
  • 5 large eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups half-and-half
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  • Make the caramel base: In a small saucepan, melt the butter, brown sugar, and corn syrup over medium heat. Stir until smooth and pour into a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  • Add the bread: Arrange the bread cubes over the sugar mixture in the baking dish.
  • Prepare the custard: In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together eggs, half-and-half, vanilla extract, and salt. Pour evenly over the bread cubes, ensuring all bread is soaked.
  • Refrigerate overnight: Cover the baking dish and refrigerate overnight to allow the bread to soak up the custard.
  • Bake: The next morning, preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Bake the French toast: Bake the French toast uncovered for 40 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy on top.
  • Serve: Serve hot and enjoy!

Notes

  • You can top the French toast with fresh berries, whipped cream, or a dusting of powdered sugar for added flavor.
