A stunning and delicious cake that combines the rich flavors of velvet cake with a beautiful pink hue, topped with creamy cream cheese frosting.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Cake:

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1/4 cup sour cream
  • Pink food coloring

For the Cream Cheese Frosting:

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour three 8-inch round cake pans.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • In a large bowl, beat the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in vanilla extract.
  • Gradually add the flour mixture, alternating with buttermilk and sour cream, beginning and ending with flour. Mix until just combined.
  • Add pink food coloring until the desired color is reached, mixing evenly.
  • Divide the batter evenly among the prepared cake pans and smooth the tops.
  • Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Cool the cakes in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
  • For the cream cheese frosting, beat the softened butter and cream cheese until creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar and vanilla extract, beating until smooth and fluffy.
  • To assemble, place one cake layer on a serving plate. Spread a layer of frosting over the cake. Repeat with the remaining layers.
  • Frost the top and sides of the cake with the remaining frosting. Decorate as desired.
