Description

Pizza Toast is a quick and fun way to enjoy all the flavors of pizza with minimal effort! Thick slices of Texas toast are topped with zesty pizza sauce, gooey mozzarella, savory pepperoni, and a medley of colorful vegetables. Perfect for a snack, lunch, or easy weeknight dinner, this pizza toast is customizable to suit everyone’s tastes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 slices thick Texas toast square sandwich bread
  • 6 tablespoons prepared pizza sauce (1 tablespoon sauce per slice of bread)
  • 2 cups freshly shredded mozzarella cheese (approximately 1/3 cup cheese per slice)
  • 18 slices pepperoni (3 per slice of bread)
  • 1/3 cup sliced button mushrooms
  • 1/3 cup diced green bell pepper
  • 1/3 cup diced red onion
  • 4 fresh basil leaves, julienned

Instructions

  • Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper or aluminum foil.
  • Prepare the Toast: Place the Texas toast slices on the baking sheet. Spread 1 tablespoon of pizza sauce evenly over each slice of bread.
  • Add Cheese and Toppings: Sprinkle about 1/3 cup of shredded mozzarella cheese on each slice of bread. Top with 3 slices of pepperoni, then add sliced mushrooms, diced green bell peppers, and red onions.
  • Bake: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the edges of the bread are golden and crispy.
  • Garnish and Serve: Remove the pizza toasts from the oven and sprinkle with julienned basil leaves. Serve immediately while hot and enjoy!

Notes

  • You can substitute the pepperoni with any other toppings you like such as sausage, olives, or bell peppers.
  • For a healthier version, use whole wheat or gluten-free Texas toast.
  • If you prefer a crispier toast, you can broil the slices for an additional 1-2 minutes after baking.
  • Make it extra cheesy by adding some parmesan or a sprinkle of Italian seasoning to the top.
