Ingredients
Scale
- 6 slices thick Texas toast square sandwich bread
- 6 tablespoons prepared pizza sauce (1 tablespoon sauce per slice of bread)
- 2 cups freshly shredded mozzarella cheese (approximately 1/3 cup cheese per slice)
- 18 slices pepperoni (3 per slice of bread)
- 1/3 cup sliced button mushrooms
- 1/3 cup diced green bell pepper
- 1/3 cup diced red onion
- 4 fresh basil leaves, julienned
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper or aluminum foil.
- Prepare the Toast: Place the Texas toast slices on the baking sheet. Spread 1 tablespoon of pizza sauce evenly over each slice of bread.
- Add Cheese and Toppings: Sprinkle about 1/3 cup of shredded mozzarella cheese on each slice of bread. Top with 3 slices of pepperoni, then add sliced mushrooms, diced green bell peppers, and red onions.
- Bake: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the edges of the bread are golden and crispy.
- Garnish and Serve: Remove the pizza toasts from the oven and sprinkle with julienned basil leaves. Serve immediately while hot and enjoy!
Notes
- You can substitute the pepperoni with any other toppings you like such as sausage, olives, or bell peppers.
- For a healthier version, use whole wheat or gluten-free Texas toast.
- If you prefer a crispier toast, you can broil the slices for an additional 1-2 minutes after baking.
- Make it extra cheesy by adding some parmesan or a sprinkle of Italian seasoning to the top.
