Ingredients
Scale
- 1 sheet of puff pastry (store-bought or homemade)
- 2–3 tablespoons of granulated sugar (for sweet versions) or herbs and cheese (for savory versions)
- 1 tablespoon of butter, melted (for brushing)
- 1 egg (optional, for egg wash)
For sweet puff pastry hearts:
- 2–3 tablespoons of fruit jam or chocolate spread (optional for filling)
For savory puff pastry hearts:
- 1 tablespoon of grated cheese (cheddar, Parmesan, or mozzarella work well)
- Fresh herbs such as rosemary or thyme (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Roll out the puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface, smoothing out any creases.
- For sweet puff pastry hearts, sprinkle the sheet with granulated sugar. For savory ones, sprinkle with herbs and cheese.
- Brush the pastry lightly with melted butter. If using, brush the pastry with egg wash for a golden finish.
- For sweet versions, you can add a layer of fruit jam or chocolate spread on top of the sugar. For savory versions, sprinkle the grated cheese evenly.
- Using a heart-shaped cookie cutter or knife, cut the pastry into heart shapes.
- Place the hearts on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown and puffed.
- Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving.
Notes
- For a unique twist, you can experiment with different fillings like Nutella, strawberry jam, or even brie for savory bites.
- Be sure to monitor the baking time, as puff pastry can brown quickly.
