- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
For the Mushroom Gravy:
- 1 cup sliced mushrooms
- 1/2 cup finely chopped onion
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1/4 cup heavy cream
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- Salt and pepper, to taste
For the Mashed Potatoes:
- 4 large russet potatoes, peeled and cut into chunks
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter
- Salt and pepper, to taste
Instructions
- Prepare the Salisbury Steak:
- In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, bread crumbs, chopped onion, egg, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined. Form the mixture into 4 oval patties.
- Cook the Salisbury Steak:
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the patties for 4-5 minutes per side, or until browned and cooked through. Remove the patties from the skillet and set aside.
- Make the Mushroom Gravy:
- In the same skillet, add a little more olive oil if needed and sauté the mushrooms, chopped onion, and garlic until tender and browned. Stir in the flour and cook for 1 minute. Gradually add the beef broth, soy sauce, and Worcestershire sauce, stirring constantly until the mixture thickens. Stir in the heavy cream and season with salt and pepper. Return the Salisbury steaks to the skillet, spoon the gravy over the top, and simmer for 5 minutes.
- Prepare the Mashed Potatoes:
- Place the peeled and chopped potatoes in a large pot and cover with water. Bring to a boil and cook until the potatoes are tender, about 15-20 minutes. Drain the potatoes and return them to the pot. Add the milk and butter, and mash until smooth. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Serve:
- Serve the Salisbury steak with mushroom gravy over a bed of creamy mashed potatoes. Enjoy your comforting, hearty meal!
Notes
For extra flavor, you can add herbs like thyme or rosemary to the mushroom gravy. Make sure to taste and adjust the seasoning as needed for a well-balanced dish.
