Description

These Salted Caramel Chocolate Chip Cookie Bars are a decadent combination of chewy cookie dough, gooey caramel, and a sprinkle of sea salt on top. With a perfect balance of sweetness and saltiness, these bars are a must-try treat for any dessert lover!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 ⅛ cups (265.63 g) all-purpose flour

  • ½ teaspoon baking soda

  • ½ teaspoon salt

  • 12 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted and cooled to room temperature

  • 1 cup (220 g) light brown sugar

  • ½ cup (100 g) granulated sugar

  • 1 egg

  • 1 egg yolk

  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

  • 2 cups (360 g) semisweet chocolate chips

  • 10 ounces (283.5 g) caramel candy squares, unwrapped

  • 3 tablespoons heavy cream

  • Fleur de sel, or other sea salt, for sprinkling

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving some overhang for easy removal of the bars.

  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.

  • In a separate large bowl, beat the melted butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar together until smooth and creamy.

  • Add the egg and egg yolk, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.

  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.

  • Fold in the chocolate chips until evenly distributed throughout the dough.

  • Spread the cookie dough evenly into the prepared baking pan, pressing it down gently to create an even layer.

  • Bake for 18–22 minutes, or until the edges are golden and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with only a few moist crumbs.

  • While the bars are baking, prepare the caramel. In a small saucepan over medium heat, melt the caramel candy squares and heavy cream together, stirring constantly until smooth and fully melted.

  • Once the cookie bars have finished baking, remove them from the oven and allow them to cool for about 10 minutes.

  • Pour the melted caramel evenly over the bars. Sprinkle a generous pinch of Fleur de sel (or other sea salt) over the top to enhance the caramel’s flavor.

  • Let the bars cool completely in the pan before slicing into squares and serving.

Notes

  • Make sure the caramel is fully melted and smooth before pouring it over the bars to avoid any lumps.

  • These bars can be stored in an airtight container for up to 3 days, but they are best enjoyed fresh.

  • If you prefer a bit of extra chocolate, you can add more chocolate chips on top of the caramel before the bars cool for an extra indulgent treat.
