Description

A delicious twist on a classic, this Sloppy Joe Texas Toast combines savory ground beef and zesty sauce served on crispy, buttery Texas toast. Topped with melted cheddar cheese, it’s a hearty meal perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 2.5 cups onion, chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 3/4 cup ketchup
  • 2 teaspoons tomato paste
  • 1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 2.5 teaspoons brown sugar
  • Salt & pepper, to taste
  • 4 pieces Green Mill Texas Toast
  • 1 oz cheddar cheese, shredded

Instructions

  • Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Cook the Ground Beef and Onions: In a large skillet, cook the ground beef and chopped onions over medium heat until the beef is browned and the onions are softened. Drain excess fat from the skillet.
  • Add the Flavorings: Stir in garlic powder, ketchup, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, and salt & pepper to taste. Cook over medium heat until the mixture thickens, about 5-7 minutes.
  • Prepare the Texas Toast: Place the Texas Toast on a baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 5-6 minutes, or until golden brown.
  • Assemble the Sloppy Joe Texas Toast: Remove the toast from the oven and pile a generous amount of the Sloppy Joe mixture onto each piece. Sprinkle with shredded cheddar cheese.
  • Serve: Serve immediately while hot and the cheese is melted.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, consider adding diced bell peppers or jalapeños to the meat mixture.
  • Serve with a side of pickles or coleslaw for a complete meal.
