Ingredients
-
Beef Brisket:
-
1.5 – 2 kg (3 – 4 lb) beef brisket
-
1 tablespoon olive oil (or vegetable/canola oil)
-
-
Rub:
-
1 tablespoon brown sugar
-
2 teaspoons paprika powder
-
1 teaspoon onion powder
-
1 teaspoon garlic powder
-
1/2 teaspoon cumin powder
-
3/4 teaspoon mustard powder
-
1 teaspoon salt
-
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
-
-
BBQ Sauce:
-
2 garlic cloves, minced
-
1/2 cup (125 ml) apple cider vinegar
-
1 1/2 cups (375 ml) ketchup
-
1/2 cup (110g) brown sugar, packed
-
2 teaspoons each black pepper, onion powder, and mustard powder
-
1 teaspoon cayenne pepper (adjust to taste for spiciness)
-
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
-
Instructions
-
Prepare the Brisket: Rub the beef brisket with olive oil on all sides.
-
Make the Rub: In a small bowl, mix together the brown sugar, paprika, onion powder, garlic powder, cumin, mustard powder, salt, and black pepper. Coat the brisket evenly with this spice rub.
-
Prepare the BBQ Sauce: In a separate bowl, whisk together the minced garlic, apple cider vinegar, ketchup, brown sugar, black pepper, onion powder, mustard powder, cayenne pepper, and Worcestershire sauce.
-
Slow Cook the Brisket: Place the brisket in the slow cooker and pour the BBQ sauce over it. Cover and cook on low for 8-10 hours or on high for 4-5 hours, until the brisket is fork-tender.
- Shred and Serve: Once cooked, remove the brisket from the slow cooker and shred it using two forks. Serve the shredded brisket with the sauce from the slow cooker.
Notes
-
For a more intense flavor, let the brisket marinate in the rub for a few hours or overnight before cooking.
-
If you prefer a thicker BBQ sauce, simmer the sauce on the stove for 5–10 minutes before pouring over the brisket.
-
Serve with sides like mashed potatoes, coleslaw, or cornbread for a complete meal.
- Leftovers can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 days or frozen for up to 2 months.
