Top them with your favorite toppings for a meal everyone will love.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground turkey (preferably 93% lean)
  • 1/4 cup diced red onion
  • 1/4 cup diced bell pepper (any color)
  • 1 small jalapeño, finely diced (seeds removed for less heat)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (adjust for spice level)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs (optional, for binding)
  • 1 egg (optional, for binding)
  • 4 whole wheat or brioche burger buns
  • Toppings (optional): avocado slices, lettuce, tomato, spicy mayo, or salsa

Instructions

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground turkey, diced red onion, bell pepper, jalapeño, garlic, cumin, chili powder, smoked paprika, cayenne pepper, salt, and pepper.
  • If desired, add breadcrumbs and egg for better binding and mix until everything is evenly incorporated.
  • Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and form into patties.
  • Heat a grill or skillet over medium heat and lightly oil the surface.
  • Cook the patties for about 5-6 minutes per side, or until fully cooked through (internal temperature should reach 165°F).
  • Toast the burger buns on the grill or in a skillet for 1-2 minutes until lightly golden.
  • Assemble the burgers by placing the patties on the buns and adding your choice of toppings like avocado, lettuce, tomato, spicy mayo, or salsa.

Notes

  • Adjust the amount of cayenne pepper depending on how spicy you prefer the burgers.
  • These turkey burgers can be made ahead of time and stored in the fridge for a quick meal during the week.
  • For a gluten-free option, substitute breadcrumbs with gluten-free breadcrumbs or omit entirely.
