Description

These Easy Sweetened Condensed Milk Rolls are soft, fluffy, and subtly sweet with a rich, creamy flavor from the baked-in sweetened condensed milk. Perfect for breakfast, snacks, or anytime you want a comforting bite, these tender homemade rolls are simple to make and deliciously melt in your mouth.

Ingredients

Scale

Dry Ingredients

  • 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 ¼ tsp instant yeast (1 packet)
  • ½ tsp salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 cup warm milk (lukewarm, about 110°F / 43°C)
  • 1 cup sweetened condensed milk
  • 4 tbsp butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preparing the dough: Warm the milk until lukewarm to activate the yeast without killing it. In a large bowl, combine the warm milk with instant yeast and a pinch of sugar if desired. Allow the yeast to bloom for about 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. Mixing wet and dry ingredients: Once the yeast is active, add the sweetened condensed milk, melted butter, egg, and vanilla extract into the bowl. Mix these thoroughly. Gradually add the all-purpose flour and salt, stirring until a sticky but workable dough forms.
  3. Kneading the dough: On a floured surface, knead the dough for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic. This develops gluten and ensures a light, airy texture.
  4. First rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a kitchen towel or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm spot for 1 to 1.5 hours or until doubled in size.
  5. Shaping the rolls: Punch down the risen dough to release air. Divide into equal portions and roll each into a smooth ball. Place them spaced apart on a greased or parchment-lined baking tray.
  6. Second rise: Cover the rolls and let them rise again for 30-45 minutes until puffed up and soft to the touch.
  7. Baking the rolls: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake rolls for 15-20 minutes until golden brown on top. Optionally, brush with melted butter immediately after baking for a shiny finish and extra softness.

Notes

  • Ensure milk is warm, not hot, to properly activate yeast.
  • Knead thoroughly for fluffier rolls with a better crumb.
  • Allow sufficient rising time for soft, airy texture.
  • Use room temperature ingredients for smooth dough formation.
  • Brushing rolls with butter after baking adds flavor and keeps crust soft.
  • Weigh flour using a kitchen scale for best baking results.
  • These rolls can be customized with fillings like chocolate, nuts, or spices.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days or refrigerate up to 4 days.
  • Freeze cooled rolls wrapped individually for up to 3 months.
  • Reheat in a 300°F (150°C) oven for 5-10 minutes or microwave wrapped in a damp towel for 15-20 seconds.
