Ingredients
Scale
Main Ingredients
- 1 lb ground chicken breast (lean and tender)
- 1 cup sliced bell peppers (red, green, or yellow)
- 1 cup sliced onions
- 2 tbsp fajita seasoning (blend of chili powder, cumin, paprika, garlic powder)
- 2 tbsp olive oil (for sautéing and moisture)
- 1 tbsp fresh lime juice (for zest and brightness)
- 4 burger buns (soft yet sturdy, brioche or potato rolls recommended)
Optional Toppings
- Avocado slices
- Sour cream
- Shredded cheese (pepper jack or cheddar)
- Diced jalapeños
- Fresh cilantro
Instructions
- Prepare the Vegetables: Sauté the sliced bell peppers and onions in olive oil over medium heat until tender and slightly caramelized, about 5-7 minutes. Set aside to cool.
- Mix the Chicken Patty Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the ground chicken, sautéed peppers and onions, fajita seasoning, and fresh lime juice. Mix gently but thoroughly to evenly distribute the spices and vegetables.
- Form the Patties: Divide the mixture into evenly sized portions and shape into burger patties about ¾ inch thick. Be careful not to overwork the meat to keep the patties tender.
- Cook the Patties: Heat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the patties for 5-6 minutes per side, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F and the outsides are browned nicely.
- Assemble the Burgers: Lightly toast the burger buns, then layer each with a cooked chicken patty and your choice of toppings such as avocado, sour cream, or fresh cilantro. Add any additional garnishes desired.
Notes
- Keep ground chicken chilled before forming patties to help maintain their shape during cooking.
- Mix ingredients just until combined to avoid dense, tough burgers.
- Use a hot grill or skillet to sear patties and create a flavorful crust while maintaining juiciness inside.
- Let cooked patties rest for a few minutes to allow juices to redistribute evenly.
- Customize heat level by adjusting fajita seasoning or adding fresh jalapeños according to your spice preference.
