These biscuits are easy to make and can be prepared the night before for a quick bake in the morning!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 cup shortening
  • 1 package dry yeast
  • 2 tablespoons warm water
  • 2 cups buttermilk

Instructions

  • Dissolve yeast in warm water.
  • Sift dry ingredients (flour, baking soda, salt, and baking powder) together in a large bowl.
  • Cut in shortening until the mixture is crumbly.
  • Add the buttermilk and the dissolved yeast mixture, and stir until well combined.
  • Mix until the dough comes together.
  • Refrigerate overnight for best results.
  • When ready to bake, roll out the dough on a floured surface and cut with a biscuit cutter.
  • Bake at 400°F for 10-12 minutes, or until golden brown.
