Description

Philly Cheesesteak Breadsticks combine the iconic flavors of a classic Philly cheesesteak—thinly sliced tender ribeye or sirloin, sautéed onions and peppers, and melted provolone cheese—all wrapped in soft, golden-baked breadsticks. This quick and easy recipe is perfect for game day, casual snacking, or parties, offering a savory and satisfying bite that’s customizable and irresistibly delicious.

Ingredients

Scale

Meat and Vegetables

  • 8 oz thinly sliced ribeye or sirloin steak
  • 1 small onion, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 cup sliced bell peppers (any color)
  • 1/4 cup sliced banana peppers

Cheese

  • 6 oz provolone cheese, sliced

Dough

  • 1 package (about 16 oz) pizza dough or pre-made breadstick dough

Seasonings and Oils

  • 2 tbsp olive oil, divided
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp Italian herbs (oregano, basil, thyme mixture)
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Filling: Heat 1 tablespoon olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add sliced onions and bell peppers, sautéing for 5-7 minutes until tender and caramelized. Add the thinly sliced ribeye or sirloin and cook until browned and cooked through. Season with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and Italian herbs, mixing well to combine the classic Philly cheesesteak flavors.
  2. Roll Out the Dough: On a lightly floured surface, roll out the pizza or breadstick dough into a 12×8 inch rectangle. This size allows enough space to fold over the filling and create individual breadsticks.
  3. Assemble the Breadsticks: Evenly spread the cooked meat and vegetable filling over one half of the dough rectangle. Layer sliced provolone cheese on top, ensuring good coverage. Fold the other half of the dough over the filling and gently press down to seal the edges.
  4. Slice and Bake: Using a sharp knife or pizza cutter, slice the folded dough into 1 to 1.5 inch wide strips to form breadsticks. Place them spaced on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Brush the tops lightly with remaining olive oil. Bake in a preheated oven at 400°F (200°C) for 12-15 minutes until golden brown and the cheese inside is melted.
  5. Cool and Enjoy: Allow breadsticks to cool for a few minutes before serving to prevent spills and let the cheese filling set slightly. Serve warm for the best flavor.

Notes

  • Slice meat thinly to ensure quick cooking and tender, juicy breadsticks.
  • Don’t overfill the breadsticks to prevent them from bursting during baking.
  • Use sharp provolone or a cheese blend to enhance the authentic cheesesteak flavor.
  • Brushing dough with olive oil before baking creates a crisp, golden crust with a soft interior.
  • Optional: Par-bake dough for 3-4 minutes before adding filling for extra crispness.
  • Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • Freeze cooled breadsticks tightly wrapped for up to 2 months; thaw overnight before reheating.
  • Reheat at 350°F (175°C) for 10 minutes to maintain crisp crust and melted cheese.
